Step 2 - Learn About Life in Southern and Eastern AsiaUse the questions and the answers/notes below to learn about what it is like to live in Southern and Eastern Asia.

Step 3 - Learn About Population PyramidsA population pyramid is a graph that shows the population breakdown by age and gender for a specific year. If you look at slide 4 in the Answers/Notes, you will see 2 population pyramids for Mongolia and Japan.
Population Pyramids - on the pyramid, you will see different bars. Each bar represents the number of people for a specific age group, like 25-29 years of age. And, there are two sides to the pyramid - one blue and one red. This represents men (blue) and women (red) in each age group. The numbers at the bottom of the pyramids are the number of people in millions or thousands, depending on the country. Look at Mongolia's - see how the bottom of the pyramid, which represents younger people, is wider than the top? This means a high birth rate and a growing population. Look at Japans - see how the bottom of the pyramid is not as wide as the top, which represents older people? This means that Japan's birth rate is low and the population is decreasing. And, see how many people in Japan are in the ages of 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, and 100+? This means there are many people who live into their 80's and 90's, which means a long life expectancy and good healthcare. |
Step 4 - Assignment
The only assignment for this week is to use the information you have learned and work on this open-note "test." You should have read through the questions and answers/notes from step 2 and you should have read about population pyramids in step 3 to be able to work on this assignment. For some of the questions, you will need to look at the slideshow. When you open the assignment, there are numbers in parentheses next to most questions - like this (12). That number is the question number in the answers/notes where you can find the answer if you need help. You can either download the word document and type/highlight your answers and share it with me OR you can hand write your answers and send a picture to me. Either way, send me your assignment to [email protected] |
