Past Covid 19 Closure Assignments
Message from Mrs. Gee on 3/31:
Hello 9th graders! It is hard to believe that the last time I saw you all was almost 3 weeks ago. I’m sure that you might not miss the homework and tests, but I'm sure you miss your teachers and classmates (some of them I hope!). I know I do…
I wanted to update you all on what we are doing at the school to keep education going. We have had several meetings trying to decide what to do with online learning and there are many issues we have encountered, especially the lack of internet for many. For the time being, teachers will be posting OPTIONAL assignments on their websites to review what we’ve already learned. Nothing posted at this time will be mandatory or graded. This could change, but we will let you know if it does.
For my class, you are encouraged to do some or all of the assignments just to keep your brains active. I know if something isn’t required or graded that it kind of seems pointless – I get it. But, remember that education is what YOU make of it. Remember that you want to be the best version of yourself you can be. Remember your goals for the future, as this time will pass and we will eventually get back to business. Email me any work you complete, and while I cannot grade it, I can give you feedback. I promise to respond to EVERY student email I get during this time.
For your paper revisions - trust me that I’ve thought about it for a long time. You know me well, and you know that I’m always trying to push you to learn, to challenge you, and to make your best effort. You also know that at the end of the day I am also very concerned with fairness and your mental health. Considering the lack of internet, the indefinite school closures which will most likely last until the end of April at least, and the difficult weeks you all have gone through even before the school closure, I have decided to automatically give everyone the 30% max boost on their papers. I am being hopeful that the ones who needed to make changes would have, and I am applying these boosts in good faith knowing that this year has been such a successful one so far and would have continued to be. I will be changing everyone’s grades today, 3/31, to reflect this increase.
If you are one of the many who have sent your revisions already or have worked on it during the closure, I cannot express how much I appreciate your effort. It makes me happy knowing that a large part of my job, motivating you to want to do work for yourself, is accomplished. If you still wish for me to look at your revisions and let you know how you improved, I will of course do so – just sent me an email.
Lastly, I just want to express to you all how saddened I am that, of all years, this is the one that is cut short. While I am hopeful that we will return before the end of the school year, I just don’t know what will happen. For many reasons, this has been my favorite year of teaching. I truly enjoyed coming to work and doing my job, and I hope that was evident to you all. With everything that has happened in 2020 to our school so far, I know it is important to express your gratitude for the good things in life. Thank you, all, for making this year wonderful. Thank you for being so engaged and active with your learning. Thank you for being energetic and fun. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope to see you all before September. Stay safe, stay healthy, and do your best to slow the spread of this virus.
Please reach out to me at [email protected] for anything you might need - or even just to say hi and give me a life update.
